The World Foundry has confirmed that the development Maim & Mangle, a C&C style game is starting up after the George Hornmoen's departure, some months ago. It was originally thought that his departure marked the end for Maim & Mangle, disappointing many Amiga Gamers who have been waiting since 1997.
When George Hornmoen left, he passed the rights and code for the game to The World Foundry and now after months of searching they have found a new team to work on it. The World Foundry has suggested that Maim & Mangle "will be one of the most technically demanding Amiga games released to date" although gameplay is still the top priority.
Maim & Mangle will be in total 3D in its landscape, buildings, vehicles and everything else. This will subsequently have an effect on the gameplay which will be different from other similar games of this type as units can hide behind hills, infantry can scale cliff faces and canyons, and vehicles can fall off cliffs. Units will progress slower up a slope and faster down a slope. Units on a hilltop will have a longer range of fire, however, they will have a 'blind' spot immediately below them for which enemy units can exploit.
There are other interesting features such as night combat which means your troop units get out the flashlights and vehicles will use their headlights and bases will have searchlights. They intend to include weather effects and a Research & Development element similar to Genesia. Provision has been made so Amiga Gamers can play multiplayer games via TCP/ IP - two Amiga's linked together over a serial cable or in a network. There will also be a save option for multiplayer games as they can last a very long time.
Maim & Mangle will require an 040 processor, 8MB Ram, GFX Card recommended and there is PowerPC support.
