He was promoted to Vice President of Product Development in December 1992 and later changed responsibilities to oversee the Gateway 2000's technical services and support operations in 1994. Amiga Flame Comments On Announcement
From my own interpretation I believe that Amiga Inc is attempting to develop a new Amiga that will fall in price terms between the console and the pc. If this is the true, then there is a huge potential for success. Think about it. When parents go get their kids a computer, they find that pc prices are too high and parents are more aware that costs of daily expansions doesn't make it worth buying in the long term and therefore the only alternative is to buy a console which only allows there kids to play games all day. Parents want an affordable computer, so there kids can use it not just for games, but for creative usage and for their education. The Next Generation of Amiga's fill that category.

Amiga Inc's recent announcement has invoked a mainly positive reaction from the Amiga Community although many appear to be waiting for more clarification.
Andrew Korn, formerly Staff Writer of CU Amiga focused in on the appointment of Jim Collas as a significant endorsement by the hierarchy of Gateway 2000, as before becoming President he had been a Senior Vice-President of Gateway 2000. Andrew Korn commented "his (Jim Collas) new position certainly makes me a lot more confident about Amiga Inc's chances". Amiga User, Johan Rnnblom also found it enthusiastic to have "one of the absolutely highest ranked Gateway 2000 people when it comes to product development" and Steve Folberg said positively, "I see his appointment as a serious commitment from Gateway 2000 to get things moving".
The second major focus for reaction in this announcement was the committment by Amiga Inc to make "a low cost home computer in the tradition of the Amiga A500 that dominated home computing in the late eighties and early nineties". Confusion has reined over this issue, some believe that the new Amiga could have the same look as the A500 while others believe that Amiga Inc is only aspiring to have the same type of success with the Amiga NG as the A500 previously had. It seems that most people are reading cautiously into the announcement and clarification is really required from Amiga Inc.
Clarification could be forthcoming as both Petro Tyschtschenko in his statement and Bill McEwen of Amiga Inc have confirmed that there will be further announcements made at the St. Louis Amiga Show. The St. Louis Amiga Show planned for next weekend (13th and 14th) could be one of the best shows this year, with President Jim Collas expected to make more announcements in his speech to those who attend. When Jim Collas has finished his speech, a press release will posted to the Amiga Inc web site.
