The election for "The Top 10 Games Of 1998" went well with a healthy influx of voting although I do recognise that many University readers did have problems. The election officially ended at 12am on Saturday morning with just about 250 votes being counted towards a varying array of games. It however seems that the majority of these votes went to three main games - Quake, Foundation and Genetic Species. There has been a further problem, in that it is now the "Top 7 Games Of 1998" the reason being that the voting for the 6th place was so intense that it became a draw between two games and to round it off two games take 7th place.

I hope that next year to not only see more games getting released but more games of excellence like this years Number 1. Amiga Gamers have plenty to look forward to in 1999. Perhaps some of these development teams who worked hard this year will have another go this year to have their game become the "Best Game Of 1999".

Ultra Violent Worlds
Shoot'em up Vorlan Software Vorlan Software Ultra Violent Worlds turned up as quite a shock for me, the first News article I did on it was about its release and although it had a few bugs, it got in at 7th spot. It is a shoot'em up in the traditional style added with some new features and ideas that worked well. There were other shoot'em ups released this year but none that stood out above Ultra Violent Worlds.

MAX Rally
Overhead Racer Fortress Fortress Independent Software's houses have done well this year with Fortress being one of them, releasing MAX Rally an overhead racer. In all fairness I don't think many Amiga Gamers have tried out MAX rally yet. In an Amiga Flame review MAX Rally scored 80% and is a great little racer, played best in multi-player mode.

Virtual Karting 2
A coin'op-style arcade/ simulation Fabio Bizzetti Epic Marketing The first Virtual Karting went down well with Amiga Gamers originally with many attracted to the idea of karting. The sequel was mainly concerned with updating the bugs, inclusion of new tracks and other features added. A good game to buy if you didn't have the original.

Eat The Whistle
Soccer game Hurricane Studios Epic Marketing The first game from Hurricane Studios was also the first new soccer game to reach the Amiga in well over a year. Impressions have been mixed but it is certainly a good game with many interesting features and is sure sign of more good things to come from Hurricane Studios.

Zombie Massacre
A 3D Doom clone Alpha Software Epic Marketing Alpha Software attempted to get Zombie Massacre out in time for Halloween but didn't make it but it's a cracker 3D Doom clone filled with some seriously bloody graphics and gut wrenching sound effects, warranting a 18 certificate. If you're a Gloom fan, then I think Zombie Massacre is for you.

Sixth Sense Investigations
A graphic adventure in a comedy style CineTech Islona/ Epic Marketing Swiss developers, CineTech created an amazing enjoyable adventure game based on a quite crazy but very calm, man who has the paranormal feature of being able to communicate with the spirit of a sarcastic bad dead man. A friend who is a detective uses his skills to solve the most bizarre problems of the rich people generating many crazy and funny situations. Sixth Sense Invesigations received many more votes than the bottom five, and is confirmation of its popularity among Amiga Gamers.

Genetic Species
Fast Action Game in a 3D Environment - Paradroid Clone Marble-Eyes Development Vulcan Software Voting between Genetic Species was so close and it all came down to one vote which went to Foundation, both are well deserving games - developers who achieved. Released in time for the World Of Amiga show in which it was the top selling title at and is believed to be the top selling game of 1998. Marble-Eyes Development are currently developing a multi-player TCP patch for Genetic Species.

Foundation
A mix between Civilization and Settlers Paul Burkey Sadeness Software One of the best strategy games released for the Amiga, inspired by Settlers and Civilization, it makes a wonderful combination. Paul Burkey, author of Foundation accomplished an excellent achievement and his dedication is further echoed by his continued release of Updates to further better Foundation.

Quake
The sequel to the Doom series ID Software/ ClickBOOM PXL Computers ClickBOOM did a tremendous job in converting what has been described as being one of the best games ever to be made. The Doom series was good but Quake quite literally blew them away. Quake is Number 1 for 1998, for those of you who haven't got Quake yet - it really is an essential game to have.

I am therefore pleased to announce that after the final count and filtering out of double votes - Quake came on top fighting off stiff competition and is Amiga Flame's "Best Game Of 1998".
