Amiga Flame's Christmas Message

1998 has been overall a pleasing year, a year when the Amiga got back on course with Jeff Schindler of Amiga Inc announcing the Amiga NG, and the Games Market once more produced some outstanding games, namely Genetic Species, Foundation, Sixth Sense Investigations and Quake. The developers of these games should be proud of their achievement.

It's now time to reshape the games market to make the way clear for the transition from current Amiga technology to the Amiga NG. I must caution Amiga Inc for they must establish firm lines of communication with Games Publishers to make this become possible. Remember the 3DO failed, like many others because the mother companies were so busy making the technology that they did not create a stable software market. There are two methods to ensure that the Amiga NG does not fall by the same way side:

1. Amiga Inc must sign on the current Amiga Software companies to make Amiga NG Software and must make every effort to help them.
2. To reach out to those Software companies outside of the Amiga Community especially those who are regarded as ex-Amiga Software houses in order to gain their support.

It is my hope that one day soon I will be able to visit Amiga Inc's web site to find a page entitled, "Those Software Companies Who Have Pledged Support".

So what is the possibilities like for a successful games market for the Amiga NG. I firmly believe that it can make a huge impact, over the last few months we have seen Amiga Publishers and Developers gaining Licences to convert some of the leading games from other platforms to the Amiga. The fact that they were willing to allow this to happen is a good sign, after talking to Stuart Walker of Digital Images about the deal to convert Psygnosis's Wipeout 2097 he told me that they showed genuine interest in the Amiga NG and in fact looked forward to it.

1999 is going to be a great year for the Amiga, on the games front we have games like, Claws Of The Devil, Dafel:Bloodline, Forgotten Forever, Lambda, Operation: CounterStrike, Phoenix, Settlers 2, The Dark Millennia to name but some of the many games. On the Amiga NG games front there is two games I know off in the making The Last Patriot and one other that has no name.

I ask the readers of Amiga Flame, a readership that is always growing to show their support to Publishers and Developers who continue to work hard to bring us some outstanding titles for our benefit. I always try to include the e-mail address in the News article in the belief that readers will e-mail their support and I hope you will.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
