In his first address to the Amiga Community, Tom Schmidt, the new President of Amiga praised the efforts of former President, Jim Collas and Bill McEwen.

President, Schmidt said, I would like to personally thank Jim for the leadership and vision he brought to Amiga and the entire Amiga community over the past eight months, wishing Jim Collas the best of luck in his future endeavours. He also insisted that Jim Collas had chosen to leave Amiga to pursue other interests and opportunities. He also thanked Bill McEwen saying, I would also like to thank Bill McEwen for his many contributions to the Amiga community and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours. Bill has been a steady and calming voice to the community.

President, Schmidt moved to reassure the Amiga faithful that he is up to the task for he said, I have been with Amiga since April of this year as the Chief Operating Officer and I continue to be extremely excited about the plans and strategies we have been working very hard on the past several months. In referring to the plans already set down he said, Those plans will continue with a great business and technology leadership team focused on the emerging Internet Appliance market space.

The statement by the new Amiga President, Tom Schmidt seems to be an attempt to end bitter speculation that former President, Jim Collas was pushed out of his job.

In related news, a well-placed source has indicated that the Amiga NG could have a DVD Rewritable CD-ROM drive and still be priced under $500 US dollars.
