Amiga Flame - Demo of the Month - Wasted Dreams

Demo of the Month

Wasted Dreams

Developer/ Publisher:Digital Dreams Entertainment/ Vulcan Software Requirements:Aga, 3MB Ram

Wasted Dreams is soon to be published by Vulcan Software and so it is only fitting that Amiga Flame should use the recently released demo to show it off to readers.

Earth has gone through many changes since the multi-national companies took control for they have left 90% of the population unemployed generating poverty, toxic pollution and ever increasing crime levels. The only option left is to leave Earth in search of a new home.

A space mission called ExplorerFX2 is sent out to look for this refuge and you are on board as one of the crew. After 9 months of searching it seemed like a wasted dream for no new home was found. Then in the Geminorum a suitable planet was discovered and it was named Agillera. During the 6 month stay on Agillera a base camp was set up and exploration carried out but no intelligent life was found. It was decided that some of the crew would have to return to Earth to relay the exciting news and so you and a friend named Harper agreed to go with about 50 others. Shortly after you entered deep sleep there is an explosion, you wake along with Harper and escape into a shuttle abandoning ExplorerFX2 which is then destroyed. You wake up to find that your shuttle has crash landed back on Agillera but the situation has changed.

This is where the demo begins from, you awaken back on Agrillera. The very first thing you'll notice is that there are two players on the screen, both you and Harper. This is for two player mode, to turn it to one player, hit escape and select controls. Now you're ready to kick some alien butt, although I doubt punching them will have much effect, so go over to the crashed shuttle and pick up some weapons and tools to aid you along the way.

I don't like giving the demo away as it just leaves you bored and makes you think its easy which is definitely untrue. But you must go east from the crashed shuttle and kill any alien that stands in your way. I've noticed that in this game to shoot accurately at an alien you need to be in line of sight but for sort of reason an alien doesn't (I believe the developers are fixing this problem) for they have shot me from all sorts of weird angles. From here, I'm not going to tell you anything else except these small tips; use Alt and move the joystick left or right to select objects in your possession, don't waste ammo, some aliens may be fiendly - have a chat, "what's in this dark cave?", and absolutely take no prisoners.

The atmosphere created by the sound effects is great along with the fantastic animation, especially when I went swimming. I think you'll enjoy the demo and to order your copy, go to the Vulcan Software web site.
