Phoenix Fighters boasts many different kinds of gameplay such as one player Missions with a variation of themes and objectives including hidden bonus objects to be found. Missions are played with the cash and equipment from your last mission; a password is given on every third mission. Two Player Missions: Missions as above but requires two co-operating players. Gate Races: Fly the race-track in the shortest time possible, passing all gates in order. Fight for at place in the hall of fame (one player mode) or to beat your opponent (two player mode). Gem Races: Race as above, but the aim is to collect all gems a quick as possible. Dog Fight: The mode that really tests your skills. Fight against your friend to be the one that lasts the longest. Survival of the fittest is true indeed, so plan your choice of ships, weapons and equipment well, and go for the valuable gems to gain cash. A single well aimed shot could damage your ship so severely that you will be glad if you make it back to the base for repairs. The Dog Fight mode is configurable in aspects of starting cash, number of ships and more.

There are around 200 levels divided up into: 80 one player missions, 50 two player missions, 20 gate races, 20 gem races, and 40 dog fight levels.

Phoenix Fighters features fast action running at 50 frames per second with large levels and with more than 128 colours on screen. You have over 20 different ships to use all with individual characteristics along with 15 weapons to choose from, including high explosive weapons. You can further upgrade your ship by docking at your base at any time to buy, sell and repair weapons, equipment and new ships. It includes doors, some opening for a specific player, one-way doors, and force field doors, teleporters, for quick transfer between different places in the level, walls that you can blast your way through or special walls that reflect shots. The enemies have individual energy shields and weapons and there is the Virus, obstacles growing and growing in size until you destroy its source.

Phoenix Fighters will require at least a 020 processor, 1MB Ram and is CD-Rom only. Phoenix Fighters has been released by Alive MediaSoft and is available at the price of 14.99 UK Pounds.
