Over the last week or so, rumours have filtered out from various sources that the deal between Titan Computer and Blue Byte that would have seen the highly acclaimed Settlers 2 come to the Amiga, have fallen through. After checking up on these rumours, I can confirm that they are true.
According to some sources Titan Computer had only recently finished the Settlers 2 Engine and were about to ask Blue Byte for the graphics and sounds to Settlers 2, when Blue Byte refused to sign the Licence agreement.
Titan Computer are said to be disappointed after the time and effort they spent working on the port and many Amiga Gamers have expressed to me that this has been a real let down for what would have been a great game to play on the Amiga.
I have always known Amiga Gamers to be crusaders in that we never give up once an objective is clear. Games like TFX and Myst have only made it onto the Amiga due to the determination of Amiga Gamers to persuade companies to allow ports to the Amiga.
I think it is only right that after the hard work of Titan Computer and the anxious waiting of Amiga Gamers who have been looking forward to this sequel, to launch a campaign to put the port of Settlers 2 back on track.
We must convince Blue Byte, to try to resolve any difficulties they have had and therefore allow
Settlers 2 to be released. Angus Manwaring, a leading figure in starting this campaign says Remember, even an email simply saying "Please get Settlers 2 released on the Amiga" is 100% better than nothing.
I must also mention that I have heard that some people have unfortunately sent rude e-mails to Blue Byte concerning this matter, giving them a bad impression of the Amiga Community. I want that type of behaviour to end, for that will only deter them and I would hope that Amiga Gamers will politely request that they get things moving again, so we can all play Settlers 2.
