The pulse of the Amiga Community has been racing all week with the build up to the Amiga 99 show, where President of the Amiga, Jim Collas will make a speech. There is an expectation that Jim Collas will announce in his speech more of their plans for the future and hopefully clarify the last week's press release that revealed they are working on "a low cost home computer in the tradition of the Amiga A500 that dominated home computing in the late eighties and early nineties".
The Amiga 99 show is held in St. Louis, America over this weekend. It will feature an International Developers Conference and a ticket only banquet, where Jim Collas will make his speech. Steve Nagel, a former Astronaut will be talking at the banquet about the how the Amiga is being used at NASA. Other highlights is the great news that OS 3.5 is to be shown off to the public by Jrgen Haage (Managing Director of Haage & Partner) and Jochen Becher (Amiga OS Project Manager) and will do seminars for developers and visitors. The eagerly awaited Photogenics 4.0 is to be launched at the show with Paul Nolan showing demonstrations. ANNEX will also be performing live at various times during the show.
Those at the Amiga 99 show include some well-known personalities in the Amiga Community such as Bill McEwen, Darreck Lisle, Jeff Schindler of Amiga Inc, Petro Tyschtschenko of Amiga International, Don Hicks of Amazing Computing, Wayne Hunt & Lee Stanford of Amiga.org, Kevin Hisel of Amiga Web Directory, Fleecy Moss, Joes Torre, acclaimed Amiga artist Eric Schwartz, Philip Nelson and Ralph Messana of NewTek.
There will also be the usual exhibitors and new ones such as The Amiga Developer Network, Amazing Computing / Amiga, Amiga Inc, Amiga International Inc., Amigan-St. Louis, Anti Gravity, Compuquick Media Center, CUCUG (Champaign-Urbana Computer User Group), Digital Arts, Digital Quill Graphics, DVS Direct, FWD Computing, GAC (Gateway Amiga Club, Inc.), Legacy Maker, Lostman Designs, National Amiga, NCAUG (North Coast Amiga Users Group), North Alabama Society of Amiga Users, Nova Design Inc., Prowave Inc., SACC (Sacramento Amiga Computer Club), SoftLogik Publishing Corp., UGN (Amiga User Group Network), WeemsWare and more.
The Amiga 99 show should be an exciting show for those who attend, but those who cannot, can still attend a number of IRC conferences that are being held on the Internet that will allow you to put questions to some of the most influential figures in the Amiga industry who are at the show. Amiga Flame readers should note that the Amiga Flame web site will be going through various updates this weekend as news comes in from the Amiga 99 show and about any announcements that Jim Collas makes.
